Yesterday I got into a stranger’s car –
She was a refreshing character,
Who felt so real in this world
Of courtesy and strange politics.
We drove to unfamiliar places,
Conversing about who we are,
As well as the small things
That we are blessed to have.
Our first destination in the hills
Was home to another girl,
One of sweeter temperament
And insightful thoughts.
We laughed over broken aux cords,
And made plans for the year ahead,
Still unknowing what may happen
But trusting it will be okay.
Our second destination in the west
Was home to a strange boy
Of a mischievous spirit
And gentle character.
I was welcomed into his home,
One filled with love and affection
That spread across their walls
In family photos and other quirks.
It was an unexpected place to find,
Where chess games became 2am talks
Over childhood soundtracks
And tea that soothed the soul.
