Valentine’s Day

I awoke to a whispered laugh, exclaiming he hated waking up sleepers in the night. They both chuckled quietly as I lazily slurred, “I’m awake”. He was glad he didn’t need to shake me awake.

Dark skies shrouded the house
With morning silence
And the shuffle of sleepy feet,
Hurrying to planned getaways
On the summer coastline.

5am car rides should not include the driver yelling at every inconvenience. The morning was far too loud. But I remember the relief in hearing the pacifying sways of the sea as I found my people.

The stifling air and cool wind
Sent shivers up my sleeveless arms –
And to see a girl shivering was like
Witnessing an injustice.
So, he took off his hoodie
And nonchalantly passed it over.
Unable to refuse,
I accepted his social graces,
Having another coat lent
By a new gentleman.

I was happy to have been warm, but I honestly wasn’t really that cold. Thank you though. You are a gem.

The soft voices and organic talks
Of sweet nothings,
The love we all share,
What a blessing it was.
Gazes were fixed on the horizon,
Seeing daylight come into view.

I saw an amber brilliance shine so brightly that I could only glimpse its beauty through the reflection of your glasses.
