Summer Fling, pt. 2

To the ones with which I have spent the summer, I have found so much delight in the conversations we have had and the wanderings we have shared.

I remember a couple of years ago,
The time I first met you
And I think, you have changed
I see who you have become,
Who you are now,
A fuller person in Christ,
And a keeper of many responsibilities.

I remember the reminiscing we did
On a large and luxurious bed,
Looking back to earlier times
To reflect on who we are now
And to see how much we have grown.

I remember the talks about love,
Over café food and flashy drinks,
And talks of our brokenness
And the complexities of the past –
I am just glad you are okay.

I remember the night
You had a bit too much to drink,
And the intimidating aura
You espoused in every little action –
But I know it was a mistake
And that you care too much
To let anything happen under
Your loving watch.

I remember how funny it was
Seeing you eat two doughnuts at once,
And thinking, you are really funny
And such a genuine person
That I have had the pleasure
Of getting to know.

I remember the nostalgic feeling
Of having a proper conversation
With you for the first time
In a long time,
And really wished you would
Make more time for me.

I see all your lights shine and it encourages me to do the same. To be a light – bright as the sun glows on its way up to gesture in a new day.

You are the treasures in heaven
That I can look forward to,
And I know that this is more
Than just a summer fling.
