Stage Fright

She walked up the small flight of wooden stairs, the floorboards slowly creaking under her weight. What was she to expect? That she did not know, but she prepared for the worst. Her feet found the small x marked by masking tape, barely visible in the space lit only by the backstage black light. The stage wasn’t a big one, and the audience behind the curtains wouldn’t be either, but her heart began to race and her mouth parched. One of the stage crew pulled the rope, lifting the curtains on her act. And all she could do was stand there and stare. *end scene*
