As the night calls for sleep,
Usually, I make a home
Under the covers of my bed
And say a small prayer,
Maybe about the world
Or for someone I know,
And say goodnight.
But lately, my body
Fights the urge to sleep,
And I stubbornly insist,
Just five more minutes,
To spend time with you,
Even when it is only
On a little square device.
And I don’t know what you see
In those white rooms
And white hallways,
But in case it’s too much,
I will stay awake—
Just a little longer,
And keep you company,
Because it’s the least I can do.
But if you’re tired,
That’s okay too;
Just know that—
Whenever you need me,
I am here.
