INT. SUBURBAN HOMES – NIGHT
WE OPEN on Discord. Four friends sit at their computers, in contrastingly lit rooms, chatting with each other on a voice channel with their cameras on. While doing their own things, they talk about foods they miss eating and stumble into an argument over the best flavour of milk. Anne-Gee fights bats on the ice levels of the mines in Stardew Valley and J-me watches her stream. Tarantino learns how to build bridges by playing a bridge-building simulation. Aydan builds some infrastructure on a plot of land in Minecraft.
J-ME
Hey Anne-Gee, do you miss Bubble Nini? I miss Bubble Nini.
ANNE-GEE
You know what, that is one thing I’ve really been missing not being able to go to uni.
J-ME
What do you normally get at Bubble Nini?
ANNE-GEE
Ohhhh um, I don’t remember the name of it but I really like their brown sugar series. But I don’t think I’ve ever had anything from them that I didn’t like. I think I’d pick any of their milk teas. What do you like?
J-ME
(confidently)
I really like the strawberry one!
ANNE-GEE
Oh yeahh, the strawberry one is really good. I like the fact they use actual strawberries in the drink. (laughs) Even though having actual strawberries in it should be the bare minimum.
J-ME
Yeahh, and I know it’s just strawberry milk, but strawberry milk is the best.
TARANTINO
What are you talking about? Strawberry milk sucks.
AYDAN
Yeah, strawberry milk definitely isn’t the best.
ANNE-GEE & J-ME
(in unison and offended)
What do you mean?!
TARANTINO
(laughs)
Strawberry milk is far from being the best milk flavour.
J-ME
(offended)
Then what’s your favourite flavour?
TARANTINO
Caramel and butterscotch are top tier. Regular milk is good too. Strawberry milk is good but it’s definitely not top tier.
AYDAN
If strawberry milk is so good, why haven’t you written about it on your blog, J-me?
J-ME
Uhh, I actually have.
ANNE-GEE, AYDAN & TARANTINO
(scattered disbelief)
Wait, really?
J-ME
Yeah. I’ll even find it. Hold on.
J-me opens a new tab and start browsing her poetry to find the post about strawberry milk while everyone chats amongst themselves.
AYDAN
I like vanilla milk.
ANNE-GEE
(retorts)
Vanilla milk is just normal milk!
AYDAN & J-ME
(in unison)
No it isn’t!
J-ME
Haven’t you tried Oak’s vanilla malt milk? It is sooooo good.
ANNE-GEE
No, I haven’t. Isn’t that just a branding thing? Surely.
AYDAN
(with a little sass)
It is not a branding thing.
J-ME
Yeah, vanilla and malt are flavours! You definitely need to try it.
AYDAN
What’s everyone’s worst flavour?
ANNE-GEE
Regular milk, obviously.
J-ME
Hmmm, I think I might have to go with chocolate.
TARANTINO
Yeah, I think chocolate is far from being top tier.
J-me finds the blog post, but it was not quite what she was looking for.
J-ME
Ah—no wait, I thought I wrote about strawberry milk, but it was actually about eating a strawberry tart. But, I did make strawberry milk earlier in the year with actual strawberries. I recorded it for my one second video of the day.
ANNE-GEE
Wow, that’s still pretty close. But now you have to go write about strawberry milk being the best.
J-ME
Done. I will write about strawberry milk and post it before tomorrow comes.
AYDAN
(frustrated)
What the heck? I’ve been trying so hard to get you to write something, but for Anne-Gee it only takes one try?
J-ME
Well you’ve obviously been doing it wrong this whole time.
ANNE-GEE
(laughs)
Yeah, now Jaimee has the motivation to write. To prove Tarantino wrong.
TARANTINO
(laughs sarcastically)
Yeah, go write it and I’ll tell my mum that there are people who are wrong on the internet.
