The Window to the Sky

As a new beginning dawned
On a beach where we once stood,
During the dark hues of a dusk,
Where the stars were shy
And the waters, mysterious.

We smiled at each other
And greeted the cloudy sky.

Like a young heartbeat, the window to the sky slowly flickered a pale yellow.

To know your warmth
Like the heaven’s golden yolk,
And have the delight
Of knowing your unwavering love,
Even when I sulk
About nothing in particular,
Is a joy I could never explain
With my words alone.

To see you now,
Then to wander back to the start,
When we took a joy ride
Over hills we should have avoided,
Where we lit a spark of curiosity,
Drawing rings in the sand,
And slow danced with our feelings
During the summer of 2021,
What a time that was—
What a time it is!

We saw sunrises and stars,
Lights illuminated from afar,
And saw a fire in each other’s eyes
Captivated by a season of heated highs
From a season of lonely lows.

And in the time I have known you, you have stayed the same. A man of godly character, both chaotic and kinddefinitely not perfect, but perfect for me. I still find myself discovering more about you in conversations at parties, where you talk with someone else, and I sit and listen.

I love that there’s still so much more to learn about you, and I can’t wait for what’s next.

Love, Jaimee.
